Walk into the kitchen at any time during the day at Northern Escape Heli Skiing and you are sure to be met with the tantalizing aroma of a five-star dining experience; from breakfast to mountaintop lunch to après ski to the three course dinner, our passionate culinary team put emphasis on each meal they prepare, providing exciting, flavourful & healthy food that compliments the high activity of our guests.

Start off with a hearty breakfast to fuel you for the heli skiing or boarding day. Served family style in our dining room, while the guides tell you what to expect for the day, this is not your standard eggs and bacon fare. You’ll enjoy a variety of plated breakfasts from smoked salmon egg benedicts to huevoes rancheros. For those looking for a lighter meal we offer house made muesli, fresh fruit salad and a traditional continental station.

Then it’s time to get in the heli and begin to work up an appetite for the mountaintop picnic for lunch. The guides will choose a scenic vista and set to work. With some quick shovel work a snow table is constructed and covered with a table cloth which is then spread with a selection of delicious deli style sandwiches featuring house prepared meats such as oven roasted brisket and slow roasted turkey breast. Accompanying the sandwiches is a warm hearty soup followed by a selection of sweet treats to keep you going (Pro tip: stash a treat in your pocket as a remedy for ‘lunch legs’ after a few runs). To satisfy your thirst there is hot tea and a selection of juices.

After an afternoon of skiing or snowboarding you’ve likely burned off some calories and are feeling a little peckish when you return to the lodge around 4pm. Don’t worry, our culinary team has prepared an après ski spread that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. Take your choices from a selection of artisanal charcuterie, domestic and import cheese and fine crackers, indulge yourself with fresh shucked oysters or warm up with some fresh baked focaccia pizza or lamb rack souvlaki.

The dinner bell rings at 7pm and trust us, you don’t want to be late. Each night the chefs prepare a spectacular three course meal designed to tantalize your taste buds; a creation of original and inspired dishes plus regional specialties that take advantage of our location in British Columbia’s Pacific Northwest. We work with Two Rivers Specialty meats to provide fine local meats that are free of antibiotics, hormones, and chemical feed additives. In all of our product selection we follow the belief that people should know where their food is coming from and that it was produced ethically and naturally.

A sample dinner menu is seared scallops with rosemary apple butter, crispy bacon & watercress for a starter; followed by your main of Roasted Peace River elk with smoked juniper sausage, accompanied by wild blueberries, winter vegetables and sherry jus; and for dessert, Apple Tarte Tatin with house made honeycomb ice-cream, sherry caramel and baby sorrel. While you enjoy the gourmet dinner be sure to take advantage of the divine wine list offered at Northern Escape Heli Skiing.

A big thing that is important to the culinary team at Northern Escape Heli Skiing is the ability to meet the dietary needs and requests of our guests. When making a reservation we ask that you let us know of any special requirements you may have, allowing our chefs to prepare substitutions where necessary. We pride ourselves on providing delicious alternatives that match the gourmet level of every meal that comes out of our kitchen.

If by some amazing feat you find you are still hungry after these four gourmet meals each day we also provide a selection of house baked snacks, both savoury and sweet, to be enjoyed at your leisure.

So, while the food may not be the deciding factor as to why you choose Northern Escape for your heli ski vacation (did we mention our vast terrain, small groups and easily accessible location?) it’s sure to make your holiday memorable. Just remember, ski or board hard to offset all those delicious meals!
