The Ultimate Canadian Winter Staycation

For over 15 years, Northern Escape has been renowned as one of the world’s premier, small-group heliski operations. Our location in BC’s Skeena Range has often been called the Hokkaido of Canada. Its proximity to Pacific storms and its far northern latitude, produces one of the planet’s deepest, most reliable snowpacks. The terrain here is big and wild: alpine bowls, steep chutes and epic tree skiing. Our new base, built in 2019, is one of the most comfortable boutique ski lodges in the business.

But since covid has struck, and borders have closed, we made the decision to open this exclusive resort to private groups of Canadian guests only in 2021, with cat skiing as our main activity, at prices locals can afford. And while many of our international guests are indeed one-percenters, our staff are not. Some of our people have been with us since the beginning and these jobs mean food on the table, and presents under the tree at Christmas.

We invite you to come experience a once-in-a-lifetime ski vacation with Northern Escape this winter!

Your Private Cat Skiing Adventure

Bring your bubble and experience powder skiing at its best. Our cat skiing tenure has long been our storm-day backup, when our helicopters couldn’t fly. The terrain here offers something for the strong intermediate resort skier, all the way to expert. Bring 4 friends or family members and have your own snowcat for the day. Each custom heated snowcat is outfitted with forward-facing captain chairs and comes with a private ski guide and powder skis. And with a La Niña in the forecast, and all-inclusive rates starting at just $599 per day, this could be the ultimate winter staycation.

Snowcat Skiing Safety

Our expert guides have the highest level of certifications in the industry from ACMG, CSGA and IFMGA. Their experience with the terrain and knowledge of the snowpack is unparalleled. All cat ski guests will be supplied with the latest avalanche safety gear, including transceivers and airbag backpacks and will be instructed on how to use them. Learn more about our avalanche safety.

Our covid safety procedures meet or exceed BC’s provincial health protocols. These include no mixing of groups, daily health checks and enhanced cleaning procedures. For 2021, we will ONLY BE ACCEPTING PRIVATE GROUP BOOKINGS. Learn more about our covid safety procedures.

BC’s Most Accessible Cat Skiing

Getting here is easy. Terrace, BC, is our meeting point and is served by multiple daily direct flights from Vancouver. The 90-min flight is less time than it takes to drive to Whistler from Vancouver. We’ll meet you at the Terrace Airport with our shuttle van and transfer you directly to the lodge using our snowcats for the final leg. Or choose our ‘scenic flight’ option for an additional $165 and we’ll whisk you in by helicopter with a spectacular 15-minute flight through the Skeena Mountains directly to the lodge’s doorstep.

“We had a fantastic time; a great overall experience. The new lodge and the food were amazing too.”

Bill S. Bay Area, CA

“With the smaller groups you move around the mountains a lot more than other places. It was a first class guest experience.”

Howie B, Los Angeles

“The cat skiing terrain is epic. We had a wonderful time there.”
