That is usually the first question I receive when a new guest contacts me – How Good do I Need to Be?

There is nothing truly like Heli Skiing. It is the ultimate skiing experience with untracked snow, long runs amongst the high glaciers and through old-growth forests, no other people – just you and your friends. No lift lines, just powder-covered mountains for as far as the eye can see.

So, back to the question - the answer is pretty simple actually – If you’re asking this question, you’re likely more than good enough to go heli-skiing. Heli Skiing isn’t what you see in those “Extreme Ski Videos.” Those are Pro Skiers. They ski and ride those lines for the movies. Guests do not ride those lines…

The fact is we offer amazing skiing and snowboarding in the ultimate of conditions with untracked powder. Sure, our lines are exciting, and of course, they can be challenging and steep, but we cater to each guest’s ability and terrain wishes. Yes, we can take you to steep pillow lines if that’s that type of terrain that is safe that day and the group has the ability to ride them. And yes, we have cliffs to jump off with deep soft landings to test the bravest.

But, more often than not, we are skiing the equivalent of Blue and Black type runs with knee-deep to waist-deep powder through high alpine glaciers and down into the perfectly spaced old-growth forests.

Where do you learn to ski in Powder is the next most common question… To this I answer – “with us”! Maybe you’ve skied powder on a ski hill, or maybe you’ve done some backcountry or slack country skiing, and that’s certainly helpful, but if you want to learn how to Powder Ski, heli-skiing is where you go to learn and perfect it.

To break it down a little more, we suggest our guests have at minimum a strong intermediate ability. Having good fitness is nearly as important and can actually make up for a small lack of ability. Although you can return to the lodge early if/when your legs get tired, having better fitness will keep you powder skiing all day long.

Northern Escape Heli Skiing caters to experienced and first-time heli skiers and boarders. Join us for an experience of a lifetime and return to make it a yearly adventure – Heli Skiing can be addicting!
