Interview With Chad Hamilton – Heli Ski Operations Manager
In our last post, we introduced you to Ryan Merrill, our ACMG ski guide and guiding operations manager. Continuing our “Meet Our Staff” blog series, we want to introduce you to Chad Hamilton. As one of our most important team members, Chad Hamilton is our heli skiing operations manager and has been with Northern Escape for 6 seasons. Get to know him:
Northern Escape Heli Skiing: How would you describe your job to a child?
Chad Hamilton: To my son I would say, “Vroom vroom honk honk.” I’m basically a rotor blade on the helicopter that is Northern Escape. But really, I would say that I have fun for a living!!

NEH: What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?
Chad: A typical day consists of lots of coffee and making sure the day happens.
NEH: What three words would you use to describe your role?
Chad: Fast-paced-fun.
NEH: If you could switch jobs with someone in the company, who would it be and why?
Chad: I would switch jobs with Ryan [Merrill] so I could go out heli skiing all day.
NEH: What do you like most about your job?
Chad: It’s forever changing, never the same twice.

NEH: Tell us a bit about your life in Terrace during the heli skiing off-season.
Chad: I love exploring the Skeena [mountain] region by boat and on foot.
NEH: What is your motto or personal mantra?
Chad: “Today is tomorrow’s yesterday.”
NEH: What’s your favourite line from a film?
Chad: “It’s a shpadoinkle day,” from Cannibal! The musical.
NEH: What is your guilty pleasure?
Chad: Hot springs.
NEH: What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
Chad: Definitely my son.
NEH: Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about?
Chad: I’m a DJ. I can also touch my nose with my tongue.
NEH: If we went to happy hour, what would you order?
Chad: Gin and tonic.
NEH: What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?
Chad: I’m a problem solver. I think that’s one of my best skills for sure.
NEH: How do you think your colleagues would describe you?
Chad: Juliana would say, “What a good tap dancer!” and Ryan would say, “You smell like jet fuel!”
NEH: What are you happiest doing when you are not working?
Chad: Hanging out with my family!
NEH: What’s it like working for Northern Escape Heli Skiing?
Chad: It’s fun, exciting and challenging all at once.
NEH: Finally, what can we expect for this upcoming heli ski season?
Chad: Snow all night, sun all day, and a great group of people to ensure your vacation will be the best it can be.
