What We Provide at NEH: The “Just Bring Your Boots” Experience

We focus on the gear so you can focus on the heli-skiing.

Each Northern Escape’s package includes skis, poles, radio, avalanche air bag, and avalanche safety gear. This means you only need to bring your boots. You won’t have to lug around your heavy ski/board bags through airports or in and out of taxis. It also saves you from having to ask yourself the question, “Which board or skis should I bring for the conditions I’ll be riding in?”. This allows you to focus entirely on your riding and not the logistics—one of the many reasons Northern Escape Heli Skiing is known for effortless heli skiing and heli boarding experiences.

Why Does NEH Provide This Gear?

We provide guests with this equipment because it is professionally maintained, tuned for deep powder skiing, and checked regularly for performance and safety. This is especially important when it comes to avalanche safety equipment. Using the same equipment with each guest ensures that everybody has the same level of understanding on how to use each piece of equipment, which is essential component of smooth heli-skiing operations.

Just Bring My Boots?

We are being a bit facetious here. Make sure you bring your outerwear, winter clothes, and lodge clothes with you on your trip. If you’re curious as to what you should be packing, check our first time heli-ski trip page. If you want to bring your own skis or snowboard you are welcome to do so.

Powder Skis

At Northern Escape you may choose from range of high-performance skis and snowboards designed to handle the terrain and conditions you'll encounter. Our guides will provide recommendations for the best gear to fit your skill level and expected terrain during your trip. Our ski bindings are mounted with multi-norm compatible Salomon bindings that are compatible with:

• Traditional alpine boots (ISO 5355)
• GripWalk boots (ISO 23223)
• Walk-To-Ride (WTR) boots
• Alpine touring/hybrid boots (ISO 9523)

• K2 Mindbender: 118 underfoot, stiff but playful powder ski
• K2 Pon2oon: 135 underfoot, stiff deep powder specific ski
• Blizzard Spur: 127 underfoot playful powder ski
• Blizzard Hustle 11: 110 underfoot all mountain powder ski, great for variable conditions
• Blizzard Rustler 11: 112 underfoot all mountain powder ski, great for variable conditions
• Blizzard Sheeva: 112 underfoot women's specific all mountain powder ski, good in variable conditions 

Snowboards

Safety Equipment

Northern Escape Heli Skiing places safety at the core of every day in the mountains. Guides and pilots meet each morning and evening to assess weather, snowpack, and terrain, using current snow science and avalanche‑control tools to plan safe routes. All guests are provided instruction in the use of these ski safety devices prior to skiing/boarding. 

The Snowpulse Airbags have proven to significantly reduce the chances of being buried, when inflated and if involved in an avalanche, but may not protect the wearer from trauma incurred during an avalanche. In addition to the skiing safety equipment carried in our guides’ packs, each group will carry additional avalanche rescue equipment and a VHF radio capable of communicating with the guides and pilots. The gear you'll be using consists of:
