Winter Forecast = SNOW

The new winter forecast is snow.

The new forecast puts ENSO (EL NIÑO/SOUTHERN OSCILLATION) neutral conditions lasting well into fall before Ullr’s prized pow arrives for the winter. However, that same forecast has the jet stream moving further north as a ridge builds along the Pacific Crest, giving way to large snowfall totals for the Pacific North West, along with coastal and interior British Columbia. We are excited about this forecast. We all know to take what the “Weather Man” says with a grain of salt but one can’t help but get pumped for winter when the outlook is this good.

The weather in the north seems to have returned to a more normal pattern. It is the first day of fall as I write this and it was only 5 degrees Celsius this morning! Now all we need is some precipitation to start forming a good base and we will be rocking the pow before we know it!

Water temperatures in all three zones help determine where the wintertime jet stream will position itself, and that in turn helps determine where the heaviest snowfall ends up this winter. Chris Tomer
