el nino weather outlookBritish Columbia’s North Coast returns to a ‘normal’ Weather Pattern after two years of anomalous weather.

The last two seasons have seen the creation of three new meteorological terms never before used (except maybe in sci-fi weather movies predicting the end of the world). The ‘Ridiculously Resilient Ridge’ (RRR for short) created the ‘Blob’ which together created the ‘Polar Vortex’, or so the story goes. Read more

She is excited bout the lodge renovations.With the heli ski season over until next year, lodge owner, Simone Mattner has gotten a jump on Yellow Cedar Lodge renovations. With plans to completely redo and update the kitchen the renovation started with demolition aided by the Northern Escape staff. While the work is still under way it is already evident how great the newly updated kitchen space is going to look. Read more

Clair Israelson. A legend retires.

Clair Isrealson has been a fixture in the British Columbia Backcountry for 50 years. He has worked with Northern Escape Heli Skiing for six years as the Heli Skiing Operations Manager and was instrumental in implementing our cat skiing backup program.

One of the highlights of guiding a private group of returning guests at this time of year at Northern Escape is the ability to explore deep into our massive tenure.

While Clair was guiding the Flying Circus last week he was able to execute four first descents, all of which were chosen specifically because the terrain was ideally suited for speed riding (see The Flying Circus visits NEH).
