Best Kept Secret in Heli Skiing

Carving through pillows of powder, an endless vertical playground for you to enjoy!
…I’m sure you are all awaiting some profound Secret for the best Heli Skiing of your life. Maybe the best skis or the best Ski Jacket and Pants combination. Maybe why Guides ski first? Tips for better powder skiing?
While those are all important and worthy of a blog article each themselves, The Best Kept Secret in Heli Skiing is this…
January!
That’s right, January. That’s my favourite time to heli ski. The snow is at its deepest and lies fat between the trees and over the glacial moraines. The base in the trees, usually 3 meters (10 feet) by then, has yet to settle, allowing your turns to dive deeper into that untracked bliss. The glaciers are buried even deeper with usually well over 5 meters (15 feet) by then. Not yet enough to smooth all the features, leaving fun rollers to fly off with that oh-so-soft-landing. The amazing terrain that we have is at its playful-est in January!

High alpine runs and untouched tree lines = pure heli-skiing bliss.
January sees the big storms of December roll through, and the weather begins to stabilize. It seems to snow every few nights and keeps the terrain refreshed daily – deeper with every passing system. Tree skiing can be at its best in January – DEEP! And as the weather clears the high alpine and glaciers are at their virgin best, with the new tracks of the season awaiting. Of course, our SnowCat Backup will keep you skiing nearly every day and if you’re looking for the deepest possible snow, it’s often when it’s storming and we’re riding lap after lap in Catland!

Tree skiing at its peak: untracked, deep, and downright unforgettable.
Unlimited Vertical starts to show its worth in January as well. The days get rapidly longer, and we can rack up the vertical in prime conditions. One can easily expect 8 to 12 runs a day in pristine powder.
Ironically, January is also usually priced better than Peak Season Heli Skiing, simply a function of demand, I guess. January prices are often a fraction of the cost of Peak Season (Hint – December is an even better deal!).
January – yep January… with the deepest snow, playful terrain and the best prices, it’s my favourite time to go heli skiing. The best kept secret in Heliskiing!
