Heliskiing at Northern Escape Heli-Skiing offers a thrilling adventure in remote, pristine snow-covered landscapes, but also involves inherent risks. Safety and risk management are paramount in ensuring that participants have an exhilarating yet secure experience. At Northern Escape Heli-Skiing a robust culture of safety permeates throughout the business.

You Can Count on Our Certified Ski Guides For an Epic Adventure

At NEH guides are required to hold specific certifications to lead heliskiing groups safely. Our Guides are either members of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) or the Canadian Ski Guides Association (CSGA) both of which offer internationally recognized certification for ski guides. To become a certified ski guide, candidates must complete extensive training in avalanche safety through the Canadian Avalanche Association and backcountry navigation, risk management, client care and emergency response. Additionally, our guides have years of practical experience in mountain environments.

At the start of the heliskiing season, NEH guides undergo a week of intensive pre-season training. This training typically includes various rescue scenario simulations, guiding techniques, and first aid training. This preparation is crucial for keeping our guides at the top of their game, prepared to respond to any situation that might arise.

Safety first! Our guides sharpen their avalanche rescue skills to keep every adventure secure and memorable.

Every day, guides assess snowpack conditions, and weather, and forecast the avalanche hazard to choose the safest and most suitable terrain for their groups. Factors such as snowpack layering slope angle and shape, exposure, recent snowfall and wind play a role in this decision-making process. If conditions change during the day—such as shifts in weather or increasing avalanche hazard—guides alter the course to ensure the group's safety.

While heliskiing offers an unforgettable adventure, safety and risk management are crucial to a successful and enjoyable experience. Through expert guides, proper training, and rigorous hazard forecasting protocols, Northern Escape Heli-Skiing prioritizes the safety of their guests every step of the way.
