Unmatched Ski Experience in BC’s Backcountry
Apart from providing all our ski and snowboard lovers with an exceptional time in some of BC’s pristine backcountry, we also care deeply about preserving this place we call home. We are one of the few heli-ski operations worldwide to be certified carbon neutral and continue to work on reducing our footprint via our sustainable operations.
We’re fortunate to run our operations on amazing terrain in the Skeena Mountains near Terrace, featuring some of the deepest, most reliable snowpacks you’ve ever seen. What’s even better is that we’re equipped with Snowcats as a backup for when those stormy days roll in and our helicopters can’t fly safely. While other ski-operations would have called it a day, we won’t. No more sitting out on deep powder ski runs due to bad weather, enjoy unlimited vertical nearly every day!
Safety, Innovation, and Worldclass Heli Skiing Equipment
Northern Escape is constantly working on providing our guests with the best heli-skiing experience to make for an unforgettable ski trip, and we’ve recently acquired 2 brand new A-Star helicopters at our Yellow Cedar Lodge, each seating two groups of four people. Though beautiful, high altitudes and steep descents call for robust safety measures, so we’ve taken extra precautions and provide hand-held radios to every guest venturing up the mountains, for ease of communication with their ski guides or pilots in case of an emergency. Our staff undergo re-occurring certified safety training sessions, including avalanche control techniques, upholding the latest and greatest standards in the ski industry.
No business is without its challenges, and ours is no exception. Heli-skiing and snowboarding are often influenced by weather changes like last year’s El Niño conditions, but lucky for us, our location does most of the heavy lifting. How? Well, with the Skeena Mountains located among Northern Latitudes, the weather is characterized by cooler temperatures, bringing in some of the deepest, driest snow; while some of our friends further south can’t say the same.
